February News
Many cancer patients are greeted with a bundle of
emotions once they’ve completed treatment. These emotions often range from the
joy of being cancer-free to the anxiety of realizing that they are entering a
new and very different phase of life. Hope Cancer Resources recognizes the
importance of having support available for survivors during this important part
of their journey. We are offering a new support group called “Empower Your
Recovery: A Program for Healing & Growth for Living Beyond Cancer.”
Empower Your Recovery is a 5-week program started by the
Pink Ribbon Survivors Network and Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers. The group is
open to anyone who has completed treatment for any type of cancer. Two licensed oncology social workers will provide group members
with support and education for living beyond cancer, after treatment ends.
Over the 5-week program, the group will cover physical
recovery, self-care, relationships, doubt and hope in survivorship, and what’s
next. Each week, members will have the opportunity to read and discuss
different articles and participate in guided visualization and mindfulness activities.
During the self-care week, members will read and discuss
multiple articles about nutrition, exercise and mindfulness. They will complete
a visualization activity, self-care inventory, and then the group will discuss
methods of reducing stress.
When the group focuses on doubt and hope in survivorship,
members will review articles regarding fear of recurrence, certainty vs.
uncertainty and how the cancer diagnosis changed their life. There will be a
visualization/mindfulness activity and an experimental activity on doubt, hope
and flexibility of perspective.
Our first Empower Your Recovery group will meet every Friday
for five weeks beginning mid-February. For more information or to RSVP, please
contact Lauren Dallas, LCSW or Sarah Bryson, LCSW at 479-361-5847. Members must
RSVP to join.
