April News

National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration of all the volunteers who dedicate their time and hearts to helping others in their communities. This year’s National Volunteer Week is April 23-29.

NWACC Volunteer Fair 2016Hope Cancer Resources is fortunate to have a compassionate and dedicated team of volunteers. They put their whole heart into whatever is asked of them, whether they’re passing out blankets in one of the chemotherapy suites, setting up for a special event, putting together patient comfort bags or manning the phones. Last year, our volunteers spent 5,693 total hours volunteering. That time is valued at an incredible $96,276.

Hope Cancer Resources volunteers serve in a variety of ways at our office in Springdale, Highlands Oncology Group in Fayetteville or Rogers, or on location for special events.

Administrative and Outreach Volunteers
These volunteers help with filing, answering phones, data entry, and more at the Hope Cancer Resources office. They can also represent the organization at volunteer and health fairs, special events and other outreach efforts.

“Been There” Volunteers
This group is comprised of cancer survivors that are available to provide emotional and practical support to patients who are currently undergoing treatment for a similar type of cancer. These volunteers are screened and matched with patients who ask to connect with a survivor.

Volunteer Battle for Hope 2016Clinic Volunteers
Hope Cancer Resources provides volunteer support in the Northwest Arkansas oncology clinics that we partner with. These volunteers provide assistance in the chemotherapy suites, radiation clinics, imaging departments and other areas in the clinics. Tasks can involve administrative, patient and clinic staff support.

Special Event Volunteers
Hope Cancer Resources hosts two main events – the Heather Ridley-Fleeman Battle for Hope and the Bill Fleeman Gentlemen of Distinction Gala – every year along with other smaller events. We rely heavily on our dedicated volunteers to help plan and execute these events.

Between April 23 and 29, take time to thank a volunteer for all they do for our community. They probably won’t expect it, but they will certainly deserve it.
