School is about to be back in session! As summer comes to a
close and your family starts preparing for the year ahead, make sure your
back-to-school transition is full of healthy habits to make this school year the
best one yet.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the most
important thing you can do to prevent cancer. If you teach your children
healthy habits when they’re young, they’ll most likely stick with them when
they’re older. See below for a list of things you can do to lower your
children’s cancer risk.
Feed Them a
Nutritious Diet Feeding your children nutrient-rich foods won’t
just help them grow up to be big and strong – it will also significantly lower
their cancer risk. According to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, half of kids’ plates should be filled with fruits
and vegetables, and the other half should be filled with whole grains and
healthy proteins. Many of these foods contain vitamins, minerals and
phytochemicals that studies show have cancer-fighting properties (American Institute for Cancer Research). Click here for some healthy lunch recipes for school.
Make Sure They’re
Moving The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that children be physically active for at least one hour every day. Regular exercise improves energy and mood, and
significantly reduces the risk for more than a dozen types of cancers. Click
here for tips on how to be an active family.
Start your kids’ school year off right by adding these
approaches into their regular school day routine. The healthier they are, the
happier they’ll be (and you will be, too)!
