Many people think that cancer treatment only addresses
the physical body. But as many cancer survivors know, that is only a portion of
it.
We at Hope Cancer Resources know that cancer can be just
as taxing emotionally as physically. Many survivors experience anxiety,
sadness, fear and other often unwelcome emotions at some point during and/or
after their treatment. We are here to raise another emotion – hope.
We have 10 licensed oncology social workers who provide
emotional assistance at no cost to cancer patients, caregivers and their loved
ones. When patients meet with their doctor for the first time at one of the
local oncology clinics, one of our social workers will meet with them to
discuss any services we may be able to offer. Many times patients may not need
help financially or with transportation to and from appointments, but they do
need emotional support.
Our social workers are dedicated to helping cancer
patients and their loved ones better navigate the emotional aspect of their
cancer journey through counseling and various support groups. They can meet
with current patients, survivors, friends and family as a small group, a
couple, or individually. We also offer eight support groups that give patients
the opportunity to connect with other patients and social workers, and to learn
more about issues related to their diagnosis. Click here to learn more about
our support groups.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more
about the emotional support we offer, please contact Miki Biggers, LCSW, OSW-C,
Director of Social Work Services at 479-361-5847 or miki.biggers@hopecancerresources.org.
