Hope Cancer Resources will host its second “Life Beyond Cancer” Survivorship Workshop Saturday, April 21 at our office in Springdale. Both survivors and co-survivors are encouraged to attend this free workshop as topics will provide beneficial information for both. Arms Up

We understand that cancer impacts multiple facets of every day life for survivors as well as co-survivors. We also understand that cancer has long-lasting effects that extend beyond diagnosis and treatment. This workshop will highlight the financial, decision-making and self-care aspects often impacted by cancer.

Survivors and co-survivors are often caught off guard by a cancer diagnosis. Both are faced with the emotional impact of hearing the words “you have cancer,” while simultaneously coordinating medical appointments, going to treatments, trying to work, managing the household, taking care of children, etc. When cancer enters one’s life, the bills do not stop arriving. Even with good insurance, families often face financial difficulties resulting from a loss in income, meeting deductibles, prescription costs, co-pays and extra car trips to the doctor. In addition to these concerns, patients must also make decisions about the future which might include how they want to be cared for at end-of-life and how they might like to protect their assets. All of these pieces leave little time and energy for survivors and co-survivors to focus on their emotional and mental health.

“Our goal in offering this workshop is for attendees to walk away with resources and tangible strategies to address financial, advanced care and estate planning concerns while also taking time to reflect on how each can care for his or her mental and emotional needs," said Miki Biggers, LCSW, OSW-C, Hope Cancer Resources Director of Social Work Services.
