Hearing the news that your cancer isn’t going
away can be devastating. But at Hope Cancer Resources, we believe there’s
always hope, no matter what difficult situation you may find yourself in.
Metastatic cancer is cancer that spreads to a
different part of the body from where it originated. Not long ago, there wasn’t
much oncologists could do in terms of treating metastatic cancer. Today, even
though most metastatic cancers cannot be cured, many can be treated. “The goal
of treatment is to help a patient live as well as possible for as long as
possible” (American Society of Clinical Oncology). It is possible for patients with metastatic cancer to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Hope Cancer Resources has a team of ten licensed oncology social workers who can help patients with advanced cancer better navigate their cancer journey. We offer counseling, supportive emotional sessions and support groups to patients, caregivers and family members at no cost. Click here to learn more about our patient support services.
Survivors – both men and women – with any type
of stage IV cancer are invited to attend our monthly Supporting Stage IV group meetings.
Group members have the opportunity to discuss coping tips and strategies, share
personal experiences and more. “Our families can’t really understand and other
patients who have a chance at a cure don’t really understand, either,” a
Supporting Stage IV member said. This group gives members the opportunity to
connect with other survivors who have a better understanding of what it’s like
to live with metastatic cancer and how to better cope with its unique
struggles. Contact Claire Rinehart, LCSW at
479-361-5847 for more information or to RSVP.
Regardless of where you are in your cancer journey, there
is always hope. If you’re having trouble finding it, our compassionate social
workers are here to help. Call 479-361-5847 or visit hopecancerresources.org to
learn more.
