We are pleased to announce the addition of a new support
group for people living with myeloma. The NWA Myeloma Support Group will
provide education, support and the opportunity to share personal experiences
with others going through a similar situation. This new monthly support group
is for myeloma patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones.
Julie Kientz, LSW, Hope Cancer Resources Social Worker
and Blood Cancers Group Facilitator will lead the group alongside Yelak Biru, a
22-year myeloma survivor.
“To have a specific myeloma support group is significant
because patients and caregivers will be able to make connections with others
who have been where they are,” Julie said. “The education portion is designed
to improve understanding of myeloma. This group is different than others
because the co-facilitator is a 22-year myeloma survivor who is passionate
about providing support to others.”
Our first NWA Myeloma Support Group meeting is next
Tuesday, August 7 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hope Cancer Resources. Please
contact Julie at 479-361-5847 for more information or to RSVP.
