Sarcoma is a term for a group of cancers that start in
the bones and connective tissues. There are dozens of different types of this
rare cancer, with just under 13,000 cases diagnosed each year in the United
States (American Cancer Society).
According to the American Cancer Society, the only known
way to prevent some sarcomas is to avoid (if possible) the risk factors that we’re currently
aware of. These risk factors include previous radiation therapy, some inherited
diseases, abnormalities of the immune system, lymphedema and coming into contact
with certain chemicals (American Society of Clinical Oncology).

- A lump you can feel through your skin
- Abdominal pain
- Bone pain
- Breaking of a bone that happens with either no injury or
a minor injury
- Unintended weight loss
